Rajkumar Sodi

Rajkumar Sodi is a master practitioner of traditional Loh Shilp (iron art), an ancient indigenous metal craft of the Gond–Muriya tribal communities of Bastar. This art form is deeply connected to tribal rituals, village life, nature worship, and ancestral beliefs.

Using hand-forged techniques, locally sourced iron, and age-old casting methods, he creates:

• Ritual and ceremonial iron objects

• Tribal tools and symbolic artefacts

• Traditional weapon forms, lamps, masks, and cultural icons

• Sculptural representations inspired by forests, animals, deities, and daily tribal life

Every piece is crafted without modern machinery, preserving the originality and authenticity of tribal iron craftsmanship. The surfaces, textures, and forms reflect the raw strength, simplicity, and spiritual depth of Gond–Muriya culture.

Through his work, Rajkumar Sodi not only produces objects but also keeps alive a living tradition, transferring knowledge inherited from his ancestors and strengthening the cultural identity of his community.

Cultural Performance

Along with metal art, he is also an experienced Muriya Tribal Dancer, performing traditional dances during festivals, melas, and cultural programs that celebrate tribal heritage.
