A language of patterns
Look closely at a Gond painting and you will see the artist's signature not in a corner, but everywhere: the fine dots, dashes, fish-scale and seed patterns that fill every figure. Each artist develops their own pattern language, passed within families, so a trained eye can tell who painted a work from the patterns alone.
From mud walls to your walls
Traditionally painted on the walls of village homes during festivals, Gond art moved to paper and canvas a generation ago and quickly won hearts worldwide.
